While I've been under the weather most of the week and overall not feeling the best, Tuesday morning was quite the reminder to value the small blessings in my life. First of all, I found out Monday afternoon I have a summer job (praise the Lord!). I will be working as a seasonal park attendant at a regional park in Minnesota near my house. Even though this isn't a nanny job I was so desperately desiring, I strongly believe this is where I am to be for the summer and am excited to see where it goes. Anyways, the new of this brought upon a drug test that must be completed within 24 hours of the job offer.
Welcome to the life of a car-less college student stuck in the middle of Iowa. To no surprise, the available clinics for this drug test were each about an hour away from Northwestern AND I had a seminar I had been planning to attend in Sioux Falls the whole entire day on Tuesday. So how does God deliver? Well, just so happens my roommate was heading up to the Sioux Falls clinic for immunizations early that morning (completely unknown to me until five minutes before I got the job and was in this whole pickle) and would be able to drive me up as well as drop me off at my seminar in time for it to start.

Double Rainbow on Our Journey to Sioux Falls |
So we were up bright and early at 6:15am Tuesday morning ready to head out on our adventure and on our way saw a beautiful and bright double rainbow :) While I already experienced many blessings through the situation as a whole working out, I was in for much more. Let me just say I was tested greatly in exactly what I blogged about a few days ago, growing fruit and the time it takes for it to produce. For those who are naive and aren't aware [as I was], drug tests involve a urine sample. No problem I am thinking. I've done this many times over the years I will be fine. Well my friends, Laura couldn't have been more wrong.
After over an hour and a half at the clinic, two tries of testing, sitting under a 'drug screening wait area' sign, drinking over 2 liters of water on an empty stomach, and having everyone in the clinic under the assumption I have Cancer due to my baldness I finally got the amount of urine I needed for my test. Yes, you read it correctly, it took me forever. While at the time I was super nervous because I couldn't get enough, I am now looking back on it thinking it is the funniest thing ever. My dear roommate Jackie, bless her heart, is a nursing student and sat with me oh so patiently, yes at times laughing like crazy at the ridiculousness of this situation, but coaching me through literally everything I could do to get enough pee in the cup.
Through the long and annoying wait for my kidneys to speed up filtration I was definitely being tested to bear and produce the fruit of patience. Our morning was filled with laughter, way too much water, and wonderful roommate bonding time but above all little blessings that have made this week extra bright and shiny despite the rain and sickness.Labels: a day in the life, blessings, College, friendship, Fruit, God, Nature
