And so begins thee DIY college decorating tips, tricks, and tutorials. The first and potentially most beloved idea was born out of my intense distaste for florescent lighting. I have gotten to know the ceaseless flickering and eye tingling sensation of these mass produced lights all to well in my years at college and have a sneaky suspicion that others share in my dislike. Anyways, when pondering how to create as much mood lighting as possible this idea popped into mind. Check it out and get excited about the possibilities of a warmer, more eco-friendly (maybe? i like to think so) lighting possibility.
Materials Needed:
- 18"-24" white paper lantern (mine was 24" and I got it from http://www.justartifacts.net/ with a 10% off special)
- An electric cord and low wattage light bulb
- Lots and lots of cupcake liners (approximately 250-300 for my size of lantern)
- Hot glue gun and sticks

Directions:
1. I used two different patterns of liners and somewhat alternated placement.
2. Put a small squeeze of hot glue on the back of the liner (after flipping them inside out) and attach to the lantern, starting around the top ring.
3. Continue this same pattern in rows, squishing them together as tightly or loosely as you want for the desired look you have in mind. I left mine pretty loose.
4. Attach the cord and light bulb in the middle of the fixture and hang it up. There you are friends, a crafty and simplistic alternative to fluorescent dorm lighting :)
Now about those cinder blocks surrounding the new lighting....
That will be tackled next, but until then blessings on your evening :)Labels: College, crafts, DIY, Thrifty Business, tutorials
