I am a giver by nature. If money grew on trees, I would buy the whole world gifts. In many situations I find myself coming up with excuses to gift a little something something to friends, family, and sometimes even strangers.
Weddings are a perfect opportunity to give, give, give and shower the new couple with some love and presents to start out their new lives together. Of course it is fun to run through the aisles of Target and register for everything imaginable - not like we speak from experience or anything. Since getting married however I have developed a love for gifting practical and not-so-average wedding gifts.
You have heard the stories of newlyweds receiving eleven crock pots, three coffee makers, and seemingly five hundred cookie sheets, right? Well now is your chance to liven things up a bit and gift the couple some practical yet unique items that they may not have registered for but will put to great use.
Travel Gift Cards
One of our favorite practical gifts received from our wedding was a $15 Starbucks gift card. Maybe that says something about who we are but it was perfect timing for our honeymoon. We had an early early morning to the airport and with coffee and a muffin in hand we were ready to go! Travel gift cards for coffee shops, eateries, and gas stations that can be found around the country are great gifts that can be put to use right away.
Cleaning Supplies
You may be rolling your eyes right now thinking
boring, who wants to open a wedding gift filled with cleaning supplies? As all the wives raise their hands and say, I do! Many times the fresh couple is moving into a new place and have not had the time or energy to even think about maintaining it in the everyday post-wedding life. The basic cleaning supplies meet an immediate need and is one less thing for the couple to worry about upon returning from wedding bliss.
Movie Tickets
Who doesn't love date nights with your lover? Pick up some movie tickets, a restaurant gift card, or concert tickets for the couple to enjoy a night out when normal life sets back in. This is a fun, easy, and affordable gift for both the giver and receiver.
Groceries
One funny memory I have of the first few weeks of marriage includes getting home from our honeymoon to a completely empty refrigerator and cupboards and thinking okay what now? There were loads of laundry to be washed, gifts to unload, and work to prepare for the next morning and the last thing we wanted to do was go grocery shopping. Load up a whole gift bag or tote packed with nonperishable food items to prepare the honeymooners for their return to home. Triple points for Trader Joe's or Whole Foods shoppers!
Magazine or Netflix Subscription
Does the couple love reading? Do they enjoy watching movies? Sign them up for a one year magazine or Netflix subscription on your dime. We received a
Relevant subscription and have loved the opportunity to dive in together and discuss the articles. Just be sure to check with the couple first to see if they already have a subscription.
