The 2015 summer camping season is upon us. Jacob and I were waiting for these months all year and have slowly been collecting our camping gear. This is the first full summer we will be married and able to get out and camp. Being active and outdoors is a huge part of our lives. We are adventure seekers and have a running list of many camping destinations we want to explore in the coming years.
Even though this will be a big summer of transition for us, our goal is to journey into our own backyard of Minnesota. Minnesota is known as the Land of 10,000 Lakes and I am convinced beauty abounds in every square foot of the state. Our favorite parks and camping spots in Minnesota include Jay Cookie State Park, William O'Brien State Park and George H. Crosby Manitou State Park.
The camping gear we take with us is simple and functional. For our birthdays we were gifted a Marmot Limestone 4P tent. It is light, compact, and my favorite color of green. The little things matter, right? When not sleeping in the tent, you can find us lounging or resting in our Eno DoubleNest Hammocks. These may be our favorite purchase of camping gear ever. Because I easily get cold, my Perf blanket goes everywhere with us. Not pictured are our makeshift sleeping bags and pads for the time being while we save up for new ones.
For extra accessories, we bring a headlamp, cordage and hatchet. The roll open sleeve holds all of our cooking utensils and is a hand-me-down from my dad. Not pictured is our set of camping dishes that include a few bowls, plates, cup, pots and pans.
In regards to apparel, we bring layers upon layers. We pack lightly in one bag and bring versatile outfits that can be adapted for the weather conditions. The basics include our North Face rain jackets, our hiking boots from Merrell (his) and Chaco (hers), and my Chaco sandals. With these items in hand, I say we are ready for any camping adventure!
